Project Overview

I interned at a leading tech company on their Revenue Cloud team, which focuses on optimizing the quoting and sales process for enterprise customers. Revenue Cloud "indicators" serve as visual signals within the quoting experience. They help sales reps quickly identify urgent blockers, such as invalid configurations or required approvals, as well as key opportunities, like promotions or discounts. My role centered on designing popup interactions for errors, promotions, discounts, and product recommendations. The goal was to make indicators clearer and more actionable, reducing cognitive load for sales reps and enabling them to make faster, more informed decisions.

The Problem

User feedback revealed that urgent errors and informational signals were inconsistent, overwhelming, and sometimes confusing in the quoting experience. Sales reps struggled to quickly understand what required immediate action versus what was for reference, making it harder to efficiently progress quotes. Additionally, users lacked a consistent way to access detailed guidance without cluttering the interface.

Research

To address these issues, our research focused on…

📊 Prioritization: Understanding which indicators users saw as urgent, standard, or non-urgent

⚠️ Usability: Identifying pain points in reading, interpreting, and interacting with indicators

🎯 Actionability: Evaluating whether users could act on indicator information effectively

Insights

I synthesized findings from four moderated user sessions with sales and admin users. Key insights included the urgency and impact of different Revenue Cloud indicators:

Key Takeaway

Users needed a design that made urgent blockers immediately visible, informational insights accessible on demand, and actions clear and consistent.

AI-Assisted Prototyping

I leveraged Lovable to explore AI-assisted design, prompting an interactive prototype to test different solutions. I experimented with toggles for promotions, button interactions, and alternative layouts to evaluate what addressed the users’ needs best.

Quote Workflow Base Screens

I helped create and refine the base screens for the quoting workflow, focusing on organizing the layout and interactions. These screens became the foundation where I layered in popovers to test how indicators could fit seamlessly into the quoting experience.

Informational Popovers

I developed separate popovers for product recommendations, discounts, and promotions, giving users access to detailed guidance. Users wanted informational insights that didn't clutter the main table, providing control over what they focus on and when.

Interactive Prototype

I animated a walkthrough of the Revenue Cloud quote table to showcase how users interact with warnings, errors, and informational popovers in context. The animation simulates realistic flows between screens, hover, and click states, providing a clear view of how users would navigate urgent and informational indicators.

Reflection

Working on an already established, complex enterprise product challenged me to rethink the typical design process. Since I started by testing the existing Revenue Cloud workflow to uncover pain points, I was reminded of the importance of letting research guide design decisions, rather than assuming a linear process from ideation to testing.
